In "De patriotten van Oudewater: idealisme en harde realiteit" door Nettie Stoppelenburg, in Oud Utrecht Jaarboek 2011 pag. 66-87: "Onder de katholieken waren ook zeer vermogende burgers te vinden. Iemand als mr. timmerman en makelaar Cornelis de Man (ca. 1710-1807), oud-katholiek en getrouwd met een dochter van de rijke oud-katholieke lakenkoper Olivier Tomson, bezat voor een kapitaal aan onroerend goed".
