De naam C(K)roes waarnaar ik onderzoek doe, komt het meeste voor tussen Nijmegen en Kleef (Kleve). Deze streek heet 'Duffelt' (Düffel, Deutsch). Verbindingen met De Achterhoek zijn er ook. Rond 1650 zijn er sporen naar Koerland, nu een westelijk deel van Letland. De Ridderordes hebben in de vroege middeleeuwen daar lange tijd het gezag uitgevoerd.
