Hij was een zoon van Willem Bartman en Elsken te Mebel. Willem en Elsken trouwden op 02-05-1697 in Dinxperlo, hij was een zoon van Berent Bartman in Klein Breedenbroek. Zij werd geboren op boerderij de Mebel in De Heurne en gedoopt op 08-01-1671 in Dinxperlo en was een dochter van Willem te Mebel en Dirxken Wensinck die op 07-10-1666 in Dinxperlo trouwden. Willem en Dirxken woonden aanvankelijk op de Mebel in De Heurne en vanaf circa 1700 op boerderij Heijink in de buurtschap Haart bij Aalten. Willem was een zoon van Jan te Mebel en Eva Brussen op de Mebel in De Heurne, Dirxken was een dochter van Essel Wensinck op Esselshuus in De Heurne.
