Mijn vader heeft mijn moeder leren kennen in een tehuis aan de Daalhuizenseweg in Velp, naar zijn zeggen met de naam : De Drempel.
Dit tehuis werd in Arnhem gesticht. In 1966 verhuisden ze naar Velp, naar de villa aan de Daalhuizerweg nummer 4.' Beter bekend als 'De Drempel'. Hier woonden ongeveer 30 minderjarige uithuis geplaatste meisjes tussen de 12 en 18 jaar.

De oprichtingsvergadering was op 24 mei 1907. Secretaresse van bestuur was de onvermoeibare Jkv. Mr. J.A. Baronesse van Verschuer. Zij ging persoonlijk altijd overal op af. in 1951 ontstond het plan een tehuis te stichten voor werkende meisjes. In Arnhem werd een huis gekocht. Dit werd in 1953 geopend. Het was freule Van Verschuer die de eerste stap over de drempel zette van het huis 'De Drempel'. De naam symboliseerde de stap over de drempel naar de maatschappij.
