Toen Albert 7 jaar was vertrok de familie van Friesland naar Zeeland. Albert en Dien woonden eerst in Essen (B). In 1913 vertrokken zij naar Amsterdam (Balistraat 77). In 1921 kwamen zij naar Vlissingen. In de oorlog vluchtten zij uit Vlissingen naar Kleverskerke (Z).
Albert was eerst treinsmid bij de Staatsspoorwegen. Hij wou machinist worden maar dat ging niet door omdat hij een keer "in dronken staat" in de trein had gezeten. Het gezin woonde in Essen (B), later in Amsterdam (Indische buurt) en vanaf 1921 in Vlissingen. In "Tien generaties Hofman" van Tiny Hofman staat hij te boek als een "vurig socialist". In de oorlog vluchtten Albert en Dina naar Dina's broer Co Bouff in Kleverskerke waar Co schoolhoofd was.
Alkbert en Dina vormen de link tussen de stamboom Hofman en de stamboom Bakker. Dina's broer Johan was getrouwd met Elisabeth Luijmes en Elisabeths broer Simon was getrouwd met Fijgje Bakker, zus van Hendrik Bakker (1837-1914), de opa van Henny Derks-Bakker. Allemaal Zeeuwen.
