Jan Kuiken voer op de grote vaart, toen WOII uitbrak. Hij kon niet terug naar huis en Den Helder werd gebombardeerd door de Duitsers, omdat het een marinehaven was. De inwoners van Den Helder moesten evacueren. Pietje is vertrokken naar Zutphen, omdat mijn opa en oma de Swart daar woonden.
In het adresboek van Zutphen ben ik haar tegen gekomen in 1942- wonende aan de Rembrandstraat 21.
Na de oorlog bleek, dat Jan Kuiken een goed heen komen had gevonden in Engeland. Hij had daar een vriendin gekregen. Pietje en hij waren van elkaar vervreemd, dus voor beiden was het goed, dat er een scheiding kwam.
Pietje is in Zutphen gebleven en later getrouwd met Willem van Noort(1950), de ex-man van Leida Wolff.
