Simon Benschop wonend te Koudekerk verklaart schuldig te zijn aan Dirk Doef, meester-scheepstimmerman te Alphen, een bedrag van 500 gulden, wegens koop en levering van een nieuw Rijnschip, lang over de steven 46 voeten, wijd op het berghout 9 voeten en hol naar advenant (in verhouding tot voornoemde maten), door genoemde Doef aan hem. Vanaf 05-10-1790 is 4% rente verschuldigd met een jaarlijkse aflossing van 50 gulden. Als borg dient het geleverde schip, waarbij de houder van deze bijlbrief gerechtigd is zonder enig arrest of proces op alle stromen, wateringen en hellingen het schip te achterhalen en aan te houden, indien genoemde Simon Benschop in gebreke blijft de aflossing en betaling van rente na te komen. Pas als laatstgenoemde aan al zijn verplichtingen heeft voldaan, zal het absolute eigendom van het schip met toebehoren en gereedschappen naar hem overgaan. Zolang zulks nog niet aan de orde is, zal onderhoud en herstelwerkzaamheden aan het schip uitsluitend plaats moeten vinden op de helling ofwel aan de wal van voornoemde Dirk Doef.

Notes about Sijmen Benschop

Aartje Braam, weduwe van Simon Benschop en wonende alhier, verkoopt aan Jacob Brunt te Alphen een Rijnschip, lang over de steven 46 voet, breed op het borghout 9 voet en hol "naar advenant" (navenant d.w.z. dus ook 9 voet), met toebehoren uitgezonderd de zeilen. Bij de verkoop is als voorwaarde gesteld dat koper verplicht is de betaling van een bedrag, ad. 400 gulden, te voldoen aan de erven of rechtverkrijgende van Dirk Doeff. Dit bedrag resteert van een door verkoopsters echtgenoot, voor schout en schepenen op 07-03-1791 gepasseerde bijlbrief. Daarnaast moet koper een schuld voldoen aan mr. smid Gerrit Booland en de loodgieter Cornelis de Jouwer tot een gezamenlijk bedrag van 45 gulden. Verkoopster is voldaan door deze schuldovername.
