Figure importante du protestantisme en France, elle s'illustra par sa rigueur morale et son intransigeance religieuse. Au début des guerres de religion, elle se sépara de son époux qui avait rejoint le camp catholique et implanta durablement la Réforme calviniste sur ses terres.
