Jan II van Egmond (1385-1451) was een zoon van Arend van Egmond en Yolanda van Leiningen. Jan van Egmond was van 1423 tot 1433, regent van het hertogdom Gelre. Hij was gehuwd met Maria van Arkel, en was vader van:
Arnold (-1473)
Willem II (1412-1483), stadhouder van Gelre, in 1437 getrouwd met Walburga van Moers, dochter van graaf Frederik van Moers.
Jan II van Egmond ook wel genaamd Jan met de bellen wat sloeg op de belletjes op zijn harnas. De man was een vurig kabeljauw en dus vijand van Willem VI en Jacoba van Beieren. Hij verloor zijn landgoederen in de Arkelse oorlog en maakt zich met de dood van Willem VI meester van Ijsselstein.
Voor zijn zoon Arnold voerde hij het voogdschap als hertog van Gelre, omdit te mogen sloot hij een onderpand af voor de leningen verstrekt aan Jan van Beieren en Filips van Bourgondië. Daarvan kreeg hij de heerlijkheid: Leerdam
