Theodorus Johannes Loog werd in Schiedam geboren in het gezin van Johannes Henricus Loog en Cornelia Wilhelmina Zijdenbos. Toen Theodorus 22 jaar was trouwde hij op 15 februari 1911 in Rotterdam met de 19-jarige Catharina Adriana Tenwolde, dochter van Hermanus Bernardus Johannes Tenwolde en Neeltje Huiberdina Beerman. Theodorus vestigde zich met zijn vrouw waarschijnlijk in de jaren dertig in Nijmegen als schipper. Zij kregen ten minste twee kinderen, een zoon en een dochter. Theodorus kocht een sleepboot, de VITESSE, maar veranderde die naam in CATHARINA, naar de naam van zijn vrouw. De zaken gingen in de oorlogsjaren blijkbaar zo goed, dat hij in 1944 in Alphen aan den Rijn in plaats van zijn 75 PK motor een 150 PK krachtige motor in zijn sleepboot kon laten inbouwen. Tijdens de eerste vaart vanuit Alphen aan den Rijn naar het Hollands Diep werd zijn sleepboot nabij Willemsdorp getroffen door een geallieerde bom. Theodorus verdronk en zijn boot zonk. Pas in mei 1945 hoorde zijn weduwe van zijn dood. Zij liet de boot bergen en zette haar mans werk voort, later overgenomen door haar zoon Theodorus L. Loog
