Klaas had een technische interesse. Bouwde zelf o.a. voor de familie grommofoons en radio's. Las op hoge leeftijd nog natuurkundige boeken. Klaas werkte eerst bij de Delftse Oliefabriek, maar werd tijdens de economische crisis werkloos. In 1934 werden Klaas en Agatha aangesteld als vader en moeder van het Utrechtse O.R.K. Oudeliedenhuis. Na hun pensionering in 1955 kwamen ze weer terug naar Delft.
