Op 16 februari 1931 heeft Adrianus vrijstelling gekregen van de dienstplicht voor 1 jaar, wegens opleiding geestelijke ambt. Op 16 februari 1932 is hij voorgoed vrijgesteld.
Na zijn inwijding tot priester op 24 juli 1959 in Oudenbosch werd hij feestelijk ingehaald en gehuldigd in Amstelveen. Hij werd in een open landauer afgehaald van het station aan de Amsterdamseweg en naar de pastorie van de H. Anna Kerk gebracht. Hij vertrekt op 4 september 1939 met het schip "Oranje" naar Nederlands Indië. De reis duurt 24 dagen en hij ontscheept in Sabang. Adrianus de Koning was bijna 39 jaar missionaris op Midden-Java en het langst als Pastoor in Kudus.
