Notes about Derk Slomp

Tijdens het turfgraven in Duitsland kreeg Derk hevige kiespijn. Nergens in de buurt was een tandarts. Om de kou te weren liet hij daarom zijn baard groeien. Dit bleek een probaat middel. Het beviel hem zo goed dat hij de rest van zijn leven met dit vervaarlijke sierraad bleef rondlopen.

De COMMISSARIS DER KONINGIN in de Provincie DRENTHE verklaart dat Derk Slomp bij de loting der Nationale Militie van het jaar 1894 voor de gemeente Westerbork is ten deel gevallen nº. 19, dat, buiten oproeping gebleven zijnde, hem tot geen dienst heeft verplicht.
