bij de volkstelling van 1829 woonde Roelof Nijenhuis Sempel, weduwnaar, oud 70 jaar, Schut 500 te Hoogeveen met inwonende ongehuwde kinderen Jacob, 29 jaar, koek- en broodbakker, Seijerdina, 27 jaar, Katharina, 20 jaar en Abraham, 13 jaar. De leeftijden zijn niet al te precies genomen.
In 1807 en 1812 wordt Roelof vermeld in de haardstedenregisters op B 263 oud of A 500 nieuw. Hij wordt vermeld als koopman. Volgens de lijst van weerbare mannen van 1811 is hij bakker.
