Notes about Gerhard Henderikus "Gerard" Selis

Opm.: De gemeente Uithuizermeeden, waartoe ook het dorp Roodeschool behoorde werd op 1 januari 1979 samengevoegd met de gemeente Uithuizen tot één nieuwe gemeente: Hefshuizen. Deze gemeente werd per 1 januari 1990 weer samengevoegd met enkele andere onder de naam Hefshuizen. In november 1991 besloot de gemeenteraad de naam per 1 januari 1992 te veranderen in Eemsmond.

Beroepen:
Van 10 april 1927 tot 5 juni 1928 was Gerard constructeur bij machinefabriek Hazemeijer in Hengelo. Daarna ging hij bij de KEMA in Arnhem werken. Daar klom hij op tot afdelingshoofd en kreeg de titel (en het bijbehorende salaris) van bedrijfsingenieur. Dat wil zeggen dat hij, hoewel hij geen Technische Hogeschool had gehad, binnen het bedrijf wel als ingenieur gold.

Doopsgezind.
Overige:
Gerard was ridder in de Orde van Oranje Nassau.
Op latere leeftijd ontpopte hij zich als amateur schilder. Waarschijnlijk zat dat bij hem in de genen Zijn moeder was een volle zuster van de bekende karikaturist en ontwerper van affiches Albert Hahn (1877-1918).
