Hier kreeg hij op 8 novenber dysenterie en overleed aan deze ziekte op 30 december 1942 in Rangoon. Hij werd gecremeerd. Zijn graf op het ereveld Menteng Pulo te Djakarta (vak XI, rij 22) is dus symbolisch.
