Adriaan was niet zelf naar Enschede gekomen voor de ondertrouw. Hij gaf Aleida een brief mee, met de volgende inhoud:
De ondergeteekende Adriaan Knape, oud acht en twintig jaren, werktuigkundig ingenieur, wonende te Rotterdam, geeft bij deze kennis aan den Heer Ambtenaar van den Burgerlijken Stand der gemeente Enschede, dat hij een huwelijk wenscht aan te gaan met Aleida Lotgerink, oud een en twintig jaren, zonder beroep, wonende te Enschede.
Rotterdam, den derden Augustus negentienhonderdtwaalf,

Aleida had ouderlijke toestemmng nodig, maar haar vader was onvindbaar. Dus kwam de kantonrechter er aan te pas:
Wij Meester Frederic Johan Godfried van Tricht, Kantonrechter te Enschede, bijgestaan door den griffier.
Gezien een verzoek aan Ons ingediend door Aleida Rottgerink, zonder beroep, wonende te Enschede, strekkende wegens haar voorgenomen huwelijk met Adriaan Knape, ingenieur, wonende te Rotterdam, tot erlanging van verleening van Onze tusschenkomst tot dat huwelijk wegens het niet kunnen bekomen van de toestemming van haar vader;
Gelet op het geboorte-extract verzoekster betreffende, waaruit voortvloeit, dat deze den leeftijd van dertig jaren nog niet heeft bereikt, hoewel zij meerderjarig is;
Gezien het door ons op dat verzoekschrift gesteld appointement, bevelende de oproeping van de ouders van verzoekster, waarvan het registratierelaas luidt: "Geregistreerd te Enschede den derden Augustus 1900 twaalf deel 44 folio 56 verso vak 7 een blad een renvooi, Ontvangen voor recht een gulden twintig cent f 1,20. De Ontvanger (get.) vDedem."
Gezien het exploit van oproeping van de ouders van verzoekster tegen de terechtziting van heden, welks registratierelaas luidt: "Geregistreerd te Enschede den negenden Augustus 1900 twaalf deel 49 folio 65, recto vak 3, 2 baden geen renvooi, Ontvangen voor recht een gulden twintig cent f.1,20. De Ontvanger (get.) v
Dedem."
Overwegende, dat ter terechtzitting van heden voor Ons wel de verzoekster, maar niet de ouders zijn verschenen;
Gezien de artikelen 99, 100 en 101 van het Burgerlijke Wetboek;
Verleenen akte van niet-verschijning der ouders van verzoekster;
Gedaan te Enschede op den vijftienden Augustus 1900 twaalf en door Ons met den griffier geteekend.

Het voorgenomen huwelijk van Adriaan Knape en Aleida Lottgerink werd afgekondigd in Enschede en Rotterdam op 18 en 25 augustus 1912. Adriaan woonde in Rotterdam
De ouders van de bruidegom, wonende te Brielle, waren aanwezig en gaven hun toestemming.
Getuigen waren Leendert Pieter van den Blink.oud 55 jaar, notaris, wonende te Brielle, oom van de bruidegom, Johan Wagener, oud 49 jaar, schilder, oom van de bruid, Jan Engelbert Wagener, oud 45 jaar, assuradeur, beiden wonende te Enschede en Jacob Knape, oud 30 jaar, commies bij de posterijen en telegrafie, broer van de bruidegom, wonende te Rotterdam.
