Het voorgenomen huwelijk van Roelof Stevens en Geertje van der Vecht werd afgekondigd op 22 en 29 augustus 1886 te Hoogeveen en Westerbork.
De vader van de bruidegom en de ouders van de bruid waren aanwezig en gaven hun toestemming. De moeder van de bruidegom was overleden.
Getuigen waren Jan Roelof Klomp, oud 66 jaar, raadsdienaar, Roelof Akkerman, oud 56 jaar, kleermaker, Samson Godfried Hijmanszoon, oud 45 jaar, kantoorbediende en Johannes Conrad Fischer, oud 25 jaar, kantoorbediende, allen wonende te Hoogeveen.
De vader van de bruidegom en de bruid en haar moeder verklaarden de akte niet te kunnen ondertekenen als hebbende zulks niet geleerd.
Het bruidspaar had twee verklaringen van onvermogen:

De BURGEMEESTER der gemeente Hoogeveen certificeert op de getuigenis van Roelof Hendrik Vasbinder, van beroep rijkscommies, wonende te Hoogeveen en van Johannes Padding, van beroep arbeider, wonende te Hoogeveen, dat de persoon van
Roelof Stevens, van beroep arbeider
wonende te Hoogeveen, onvermogend is om de kosten der acten, bewijzen en schrifturen, benoodigd tot het voltrekken van een wettig huwelijk te kunnen betalen.

mede in deze gemeente woonachtig, onvermogend is tot betaling van de kosten der akten, bewijzen en schrifturen, benoodigd tot het voltrekken van een huwelijk, en dat hij mitsdien valt in de termen van het 10de lid § A van art. 27 der wet van den 3den October 1848 (Staatsblad ? 47).

DE COMMISSARIS DES KONINGS in de provincie DRENTHE verklaart: dat Roelof Stevens, geboren te Hoogeveen den 1 April 1864, wonende te Hoogeveen, van beroep arbeider, zoon van Hendrik en van Trijntje Zwiep, wonende te Hoogeveen, in het inschrijvingsregister van de gemeente Hoogeveen van het jaar 1883 voor de lichting van het jaar 1884 is ingeschreven, dat hem bij de loting is ten deel gevallen nommer 92, en dat hij vervolgens door den militieraad in Drenthe uit hoofde van broederdienst van den dienst is vrijgesteld.
Gegeven te ASSEN, den 24 Augustus 1886.
