Het graafschap Haspinga moet meer dan waarschijnlijk de streek tussen Maas en Jeker hebben omvat. Het graafschap ontstond toen de Karolingische gouwen en graafschappen op het eind van de 9e en in de loop van de 10e eeuw verbrokkelden en nieuwe grenzen ontstonden; zo moet Haspinga voortgekomen zijn uit de Haspengouw .
Het graafschap werd in 1040 aan het prinsbisdom Luik geschonken (volgens andere bronnen in 1050). Aangezien het graafschap Loon een leen was van Haspinga werd de graaf van Loon automatisch een leenman van Luik.

Avernas-le-Bauduin, deel van de Belgische gemeente Hannuit, provincie Luik. Avernas-le-Bauduin was tot 1971 (529 inw.) een zelfstandige gemeente.
