Liberale Gifte 1748


De Liberale Gifte was een speciale heffing ten bedrage van 2% van het vermogen ter bestrijding van de extra defensiekosten t.g.v. een Franse inval in de Zuidelijke Nederlanden in de periode 1745-1747. Wie minder bezat dan 500 gulden, betaalde niet de heffing, maar was vrij om iets te geven, vandaar de naam.


Hieronder staat een fragment uit deze Liberale Gifte met vermelding van zowel Hendrik Neerhof en Janna Eppink alsmede hun zoon Rosier Neerhof en zijn echtgenote Beerndeken Beestman. Zij verklaren onder ede dat hun vermogen 1800 respectievelijk 700 gulden bedraagt en hebben de belasting netjes betaald.


Direct daaronder staat vermeld dat ‘in Neerhofs Spikker’ (oftewel ‘Spieker‘) het echtpaar Hindrik ter Beek en Lisebeth op den Heuvel woont. Zij beschikken over minder dan 500 gulden maar betalen blijkbaar wel een vrijwillige bijdrage.
