      Johannes Hendericus vestigde zich met zijn vrouw Wilhelmina Hofstede in Assen, waar hij als vervener werkzaam was. Waarschijnlijk heeft hij zijn zaken zo groot opgezet dat hij na verloop van tijd niet meer in staat was de rentebetaling en de aflossing van de genomen hypotheken te voldoen.

      Dit zal dan mogelijk de oorzaak zijn geweest van de verkoop, in 1853, van het Corpus de Linde, waardoor hij in 1854 in staat was alle door hem genomen hypotheken af te lossen.
