Jacob Pouwels was Katholiek en is later protestant geworden. In de Oude Kerk in Rijswijk hangt een, in 1628 aan deze kerk geschonken, rouwbord. Daarop staat de levensgeschiedenis van Jacob Pouwelszn de Loose in rijm beschreven. Volgens dit rouwbord had hij: 8 kinderen, waarvan 1 overleden; 57 kleinkinderen waarvan er 18 overleden waren en 2 achterkleinkinderen. Hij was waard en gezworene van Hof van Delft (1588-1616). Hij wordt ook "De Loose" genoemd en compareert ook als zodanig in diverse akten, hij is zelfs onder die naam begraven. Sommige van zijn nakomelingen hebben die (bij)naam afwisselend en in sommige gevallen zelfs constant als familienaam gebruikt
