Er volgde een lange sliert van onlusten: de Brabantse omwenteling; het Franse schrikbewind en de dwingelandij van Napoleon. Maarten – Jozef ARRAZOLA d’ ONATE was de laatste heer van MELDERT. Onder zijn bestuur werd ons land een wingewest van de Franse Republiek. De privilegies van de adel werden afgeschaft en er kwam voor goed een einde aan het feodale tijdperk..
