      Frederik ging in 1635 een voornaam huwelijk aan met Elisabeth de Geloes, dochter van Jan en van Elisabeth van Elsrack. Zijn zwagers waren Jan de Geloes, pastoor van Hasselt en landdeken van het Haspengouws concilie, Renier de Geloes, die eveneens deken van Hasselt werd, Robert de Geloes, kanunnik te Borgloon en Keulen, en Steven de Geloes, schepen van het hooggerechtshof van Vliermaal.

      Frederik werd de eerste van vier familieleden die zitting namen in de Hasseltse schepenbank. Hij werd op 27 mei 1639 benoemd tot schepen en nam in 1674 ontslag ten voordele van zijn zoon Jan-Renier.

      Van Frederik Vrerix bewaart men in twee exemplaren een portret, dat hem in de typische zwarte kledij van een hoge magistraat voorstelt. Ter ere van zijn ouders en grootouders plaatste Frederik Vrerix in 1663 een gearmorieerd gedenkteken in de Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk. Enkele jaren na het overlijden van zijn echtgenote, op 16 februari 1664, hertrouwde Frederik op 19 juli 1669 met zijn nicht Elisabeth Vrerix, dochter van zijn broer Jan, die amper twee maanden later beviel van een zoon, bij zijn doop op 19 oktober Jacob-Gerard genoemd.
