Evergrada, of tante Gra zoals mijn vader haar noemde, had een typische inslag. Mijn vader vertelde dat ze het voor mode hield om al haar geld te sorteren, soort bij soort, en die dan in aparte zakjes te bewaren. De lol was het dan als ze iets moest betalen, dan moest alles appart uit die zakjes komen. Ook stond er dan bijvoorbeeld een tijl midden in de woonkamer met paling: die moeten eerst schoon worden in het water zij ze dan. Dat kan best, maar midden in je kamer...Mijn vader stond eens met verbazing te kijken hoe ze een vis opensneed en alle ingewanden per stuk bekeek en uitvoerig controleerde, wat doe je? zei mijn vader; ja ik kijk of de vis wel goed is, of alles er wel in zit, je weet maar nooit.
