    Crone was een fanatiek NSB-er. Werd door de NSB-burgemeester van Nijmegen M. van Lokhorst kort voor het bombardement, nl. in januari 1944, tot wethouder van financiën aangesteld. Na een conflict in 1943 met de "goede" wethouders die weigerdenNijmeegse ambtenaren aan te wijzen voor de Arbeitseinsatz en daarom kozen voor ontslagname, had Van Lokhorst Duitsgezinde wethouders aangesteld. Alleen de ontslagname van wethouder P.van der Velden werd door Van Lokhorst pas in januari 1944 aanvaard, waarna Crone wethouder werd. Een maand later vond Joseph Crone de dood bij het bombardement.(www.oorlogsdodennijmegen.nl)
