    100-jarige Abeltje Pentenga leerde vele kinderen lezen en schrijven

    SINT NICOLAASGA - Abeltje Pentenga is 9 juni 100 jaar geworden. Ze woont sinds zeven jaar in Doniahiem in Sint Nicolaasga.

    Het was om haar familie dat Abeltje Pentenga veertien jaar geleden naar Friesland trok. 100 jaar terug werd ze geboren in Gouda. Daarna verhuisde ze naar Bilthoven.
    Vanaf haar 18e stond ze voor de klas. Vele kinderen heeft ze leren lezen en schrijven. Zelfs nu nog kent ze alle kinderliedjes uit haar hoofd. Later verhuisde ze naar Bussum en haalde ze nog een onderwijsbevoegdheid erbij: lerares huishoudkunde. Toen leerde ze meiden breien op de huishoudschool.
    Reislustig bereisde ze zomers alle landen van Europa en ging ze 's winters graag op wintersport. Ze spreekt meerdere talen. Haar handen staan nooit stil: tuinieren, haken, breien. Vorig jaar ontving ze na 50 jaar het erelidmaatschap van het humanistisch verbond. Jarenlang heeft ze filosofie gestudeerd. Ook was ze voorzitter van een boekenclub.
    Muzikaal als ze is, leerde ze bij het Bilthovenste Koor de Matthäus-Passion helemaal uit haar hoofd. En nu zingt ze, na zeven jaar met volle tevredenheid te wonen in Doniahiem, ook vele Friese liederen uit volle borst mee.
