THORN - Burgemeester J. Smeets heeft gisteren de zilveren eremedaile verbonden aan de orde van Oranje Nassau uitgereikt aan de 72-jarige J. Corbeij, wonende aan de Trippaerdstraat in Thorn. De heer Corbeij kreeg deze onderscheiding voor zijn verdienste voor de Koninklijke Harmonie van Thorn. In 1930 begon hij als klarinettist bij deze befaamde harmonie. In 1965 werd hij gekozen als bestuurslid. Deze functie vervulde hij tot 1980. Verder is hij nog steeds actief als medewerker van de werkploeg die ingeschakeld wordt bij de organisatie van festiviteiten van de harmonie. Als zodanig is hij een steunpilaar voor het korps en een goed voorbeeld voor de jeugdige leden.
