Piet is in de oorlog te werk gesteld in Duitsland
hij vertrok op 4 juli 1941, hij woonde toen met zijn gezin aan de Borgerstraat 159, hs, op de kaart staat opperman
van 18 juli t/m 3 oktober 1941, verdiende hij fl. 4,00 per week, 1ste terugkeer 2 oktober 1941
28 april 1942 moest hij weer weg, naar Drontheim, hij verdiende t/m juni fl. 62 gulden en 50 cent, op 20 juni 1942 werd hij ontslagen wegens ziekte
en op 22 juni keerde hij terug naar Nederland

Martijn Spooren kende deze ome Piet, hij ging bij hem op bezoek met zijn oma en opa. Hij herinnert hem als een heel lieve man die wel streng was voor zijn kinderen. Als iemand in zijn/haar bed had geplast werd hij/zij gewoon weer terug in bed gelegd.
