Funeral services for George VanderMeulen, 91, one of the city's first jewelers, who died Friday at home of his daughter, Mrs Julia Tolsma, 728 Livingston-av., NE, were held Monday afternoon in the Zaagman chapel. Burial was in Fairplains cemetery.
Native of The Netherlands. Mr. VanderMeulen came here when he was 18 years old. He formerly operated a jewelry store at 311 Monroe-av., NW, retiring in 1917.
He leaves three other daughters, Mrs. Frank VanderTil, Mrs. Jacob Sportel en Mrs. G.J. VanderMeulen; a son, George, jr, and a sister, Mrs. Etta Vonk, all of Grand Rapids; twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

De begrafenisdienst voor George VanderMeulen, 91, een van de eerste juweliers van de stad, die vrijdag overleed in het huis van zijn dochter, mevrouw Julia Tolsma, 728 Livingston-av., NE, werd maandagmiddag gehouden in de Zaagman-kapel. Begrafenis was op Fairplains begraafplaats.
De heer VanderMeulen, geboren in Nederland, kwam hier toen hij 18 jaar oud was. Hij had voorheen een juwelierszaak in 311 Monroe-av., NW, en ging met pensioen in 1917.
Hij laat drie andere dochters achter, mevrouw Frank VanderTil, mevrouw Jacob Sportel en mevrouw G.J. VanderMeulen; een zoon, George jr. en een zuster, mevrouw Etta Vonk, allemaal wondende in Grand Rapids; twaalf kleinkinderen en dertien achterkleinkinderen.
