Notes about Derk Harms Soldaat

Uit diverse kranten:
Op 18 juli 1861, bij de bouw van de bierbrouwerij van de heer Eikens in Winschoten, waren de werklieden bezig met het wegnemen van stutten uit een van de kelders waardoor het gewelf instortte en drie werklieden, en een paar knapen, van ca. 15 jaren, onder de steenmassa werden bedolven. Het lukte om de beide knapen, levend, onder het puin weg te halen. De lijken van de drie werklieden werden verpletterd terug gevonden. Het ongeval werd aan de onkunde, onvoorzichtigheid of onverschilligheid van de aannemer Jan Aikens toegeschreven.
De slchtoffers waren: Derk Harms Soldaat, 35 jaar, Evert van Dijk, 37 jaar en Berend Pieter Dijk, 32 jaar.
