Hermann I van Saksen (geboren rond 905/911, overleden in 973), stichtervan de Saksische Billung-dynastie, was de zoon van Billung van Stubenskorn en Ermengarde van Nantes [bronvermelding nodig].
Keizer Otto de Grote benoemde hem in 953 tot markgraaf en vervolgens in962 tot procurator-regis van het hertogdom Saksen.
Hermann I van Saksen trouwde met Hildegard van Westerburg [bronvermelding nodig]. Uit dit huwelijk werden vijf kinderen geboren:
Bernard I van Saksen (overleden in 1011), hertog van Saksen;
Luidger (overleden in 1011), die trouwde met Emma;
Matilda van Saksen (overleden in 1008), die rond 960 trouwde met graaf Boudewijn III van Vlaanderen; weduwe geworden in 962, trouwde ze rond 963 met graaf Godfried I van Verdun;
Suanichilde van Saksen (gestorven in 1014) trouwde met markgraaf Thietmar van Meissen, en later met markgraaf Ekhehard I van Meissen;
Emma van Saksen trad toe tot een kloosterorde en werd abdis in Herford.
