Ongeveer 25000 Nederlanders traden in Duitse krijgsdienst gedurende de tweede Wereldoorlog. Hierdoor verloren zij automatisch hun Nederlanderschap. In 1953 werd door de Nederlandse staat een wet ingevoerd waardoor deze stateloze Nederlanders hun Nederlandse Nationaliteit weer konden terugkrijgen. (wet 1953 Staatsblad 363).


Deze wet is in 1977 ingetrokken, en zijn de aanvragen voor het Nederlanderschap voor deze categorie ingebed in de aanvraag voor naturalisatie.


Hierdoor is het niet mogelijk om deze categorie te onderscheiden van anderen. Een aanwijzing dat een persoon wel in vreemde krijgsdienst is geweest, is wanneer de aanvrager geboren is voor 1930, en eveneens toen geboren is als Nederlander.
