Notes about Fern R. Arneson

Fern was born to Oscar and Petra Arneson. She had 5 siblings - Alice, Betty, Maxton, Louise, and Dean. In 1930 the family was living in Fay Burke ND where Oscar was a laborer in the coal mines. By 1940, they had moved to Idaho Falls ID where Oscar was a Building Contractor/Carpenter. Fern was working in a private home as a nurse maid.

In August of 1943, Fern married Kenneth DeYoung in Seattle WA. Their marriage license said they were married on Aug. 3 by a justice of the peace while Kenneth was in the US Navy. Kenneth's obituary states that they were married Aug 9 while he was serving in the US Coast Guard. He left the Coast Guard in 1945, and he and Fern returned to make their home in Lewiston ID. In 1952, Kenneth joined the Idaho State Police and they lived in various Idaho cities. He retired as superintendent in 1979, and they settled back in Lewiston.

Fern and Kenneth had two sons - Kenneth, Jr. and Brad who settled in Washington State. Fern and Kenneth spent summers in Westport WA to be near their sons.

Fern died at age 79 and was cremated.
