Notes about Willem Jansz Calis

"Pak de Leuning"; Willem en Betje woonden op "het Wilgenhoekje", tegenover Johanneshove, aan de Eemnesserweg. In vroeger tijden stroomde daar "het Biezemstroompje", waardoor je met een loopplank het huisje kon bereiken, en daar komt ook de naam "Willem van Pak de Leuning" vandaan. Hij schonk, zonder dat hij een café had, aan de marktlui en aan de Laarders, een borrel voor de prijs van 3 cent per glas. Dus met een slok op moest je over de loopplank, waar een leuning als een bonenstaak aan zat, waarbij Willem zijn klanten achterna riep : "Pak de Leuning"! . Het gezin verhuisde later naar de boerderij verderop : "de Maatschappij" ; Eemnesserweg, hoek Blaricummertollaan. Hiervoor woonde wethouder Henricus Calis *1875, van 1901 tot 1903, hier.
