Hij was klerk bij Borsumij.


Op 10 mei 1943 werd hij door de Japanners ingerekend, omdat hij illegaal naar de radio had geluisterd. Een zoon van hem, werkzaam bij de Japanse arts Shogenji, werd eveneens op dezelfde dag om onbekende redenen gearresteerd.. Bij de huiszoeking vonden de Japanners een brief van weer een andere zoon die in Tarakan woonde. Deze had daarin geschreven dat hij liever staande zou sterven dan voor de Jap knielende te leven. Twee maanden later zat ook hij bij zijn vader en broer in de gevangenis in Bandjermassin. Geen van drieen overleefde de oorlog.
