William III became Count of Hainault (William III) and after the death of his father in 1304 also Count of Holland (William I). During the conflict with Dampierres he sights with the King of France, his loyalty is rewarded with the marriage of the niece of the King of France, Johanna of Valois (23-May-1305). William promotes the election of Ludwick "The Bayer" as King of Germany. Ludwick later married William's daughter. Promotes the Queen of England which leads to a marriage of Edward III of England with William's oldest daughter. William has great influence in international circles as Father-in-law of the King of Germany and the King of England.
William has an affair with one of the Ladies of his Court known as Lady de Moor which results in his illegitimate son (Jan Aelman) born around 1320.Source 4
