Emigreerden april 1904 naar USA met de Noordam, vestigden zich in Chicago, Illinois. Ze verhuisden in 1917 naar Watervliet, MI en hadden daar een boerderij. Later rond 1926, verhuisden ze naar Grand Rapids, MI en rond 1928-1930 naar Ann Arbor.
Nanko was loodgieter (janitor) tot zijn pensionering in 1946. Hij maakte voor de kinderen ski's uit het hoofdeinde van een oud bed en
voor de meisjes poppenmeubeltjes van sigarenkistjes.
