Notes about Kars Geert Kroeze

Kars emigreerde naar Canada, provincie Manitoba samen met zijn latere
zwager Jacob Veninga.
In Canada werkten zij op verschillende boerderijen in Zuid-Manitoba.
Kars werkte voor de familie Bland op hun boerderij in Melita.
Kars die geen Engels sprak, leerde dit van de Heer en Mevrouw Bland, die
veel geduld met hem hadden en hem de woorden net zo lang lieten
totdat zij goed waren. Hij leerde vrijwel accentloos Engels spreken, en
roemde daar altijd de familie Bland voor.
Later werkte hij als houthakker bij de Hudson Bay Junction aan de
oever.
Het was in een lange koude winter en mijlen van de bewoonde wereld,
dat hij het voorjaar daarop appendicitus kreeg, hij werd toen met de
naar Portage het 1a Prairie Hospitaal gestuurd.
De dokter aldaar realiseerde zich dat Kars niemand kende en vertelde dat
een andere Hollander zou sturen om hem te bezoeken.
Later op de avond kwam Andrew Denbeer kars bezoeken, dit was de start van
levenslange vriendschap.
Toen de Duitsers in 1940 Holland binnenvielen,gingen Andy en Kars
naar Winninpeg om zich bij het leger aan te melden.
De opleidingsofficier stuurde hen naar de Royal Canadien Engineers, omdat
beiden veel ervaring hadden met zware boerderij machines en bulldozers.
De meeste tijd in Europa besteden zij aan het geschikt maken van land,
landingsbanen en aan het maken van wegen en bruggen.
Hun militaire opleiding kregen zij in Dundurn,Sask en in de herfst
verlieten ze Engeland.
Kars ontmoette Peggy in Jan 1941 en zij trouwden op 18 april 1942
Na de oorlog werkte hij als brandweerman bij Fort Osborne Barracks .

Door studie verkreeg hij zijn derde en tweede klas certificaten van
en hij werd zelfs chef technicus bij de tweede afdeling van Fort Osborne.
Zijn leven was gecentreerd rond zijn familie, ze hebben dan ook een mooie
samen gehad, met camperen en reizen in de zomer en bobsleeen en
in de lange winters.
In july 1978 stierf hij aan maagkanker.
