Dysenterie. Eigen schuld, foeterden Texelaars, omdat Dros uit geloofsovertuiging de tussenkomst van de dokter niet toestond. Acht jaar vóór het drama hadden ze al een kind verloren. En amper twaalf jaar erna overleed de moeder.
