In de herinnering waren de Kwekkebooms en aanverwanten zeer arm en was Jan Kwekkeboom (1885) de eerste die als melkboer met een eigen huis iets welvarender was. Het huis stond in de Batavia-buurt in Enschede. Achter het huis bevond zich de stal waar het paard voor de melkkar stond. Later ging Jannie Groote Haar - Kwekkeboom daar wonen.
