Papa en mama hebben elkaar leren kennen in 1938/39.
Volgens verhaal van oom Hans:
Papa en oom Hans zijn dansles gaan volgen en op advies van opa bij dansschool jan v/d Velde in Den Haag gegaan. Mama volgde daar destijds ook dansles met vriendinnen.
Oom Hans en papa werkten samen bij de firma Duiker. In de oorlog 40-45 had Duiker ook opdrachten vanuit Duitsland.Daarom moesten toen ook werknemers naar Duitsland om daar te gaan werken. (zie verder bij oom Hans)
Papa heeft behalve bij Duiker, die naderhand in Rijswijk(zh) is gevestigd,ook bij Grossman en Enraf- Nonius (in Delft) gewerkt. Hij ging in de begin jaren altijd op de brommer, een Typhoon of de Solex. Pas veel later kocht hij zijn auto,een Simca 1000. Apetrots was ie. Later heeft hij een Simca 1100 gehad.(Die auto daar heb ik nog een ongeluk mee gehad toen ik tante Hetty naar huis bracht, total loss.)
Altijd was hij met elektronische en elektrische apparaten aan het rommelen. Ik weet nog dat hij een dure Uher bandrecorder had en die "verbouwde". Op laatst niets dan een zak onderdelen. Op mij maakte het in eerste instantie behoorlijk indruk.
Papa was wild van klassieke muziek,Jussi Bjorling-Orgelmuziek van Feike Asma-Mahler-Beethoven. Maar ook populaire muziek als Udo Jurgens en later The Beatles of Bee-Gees vond hij niet altijd lelijk, eigenlijk best wel mooi dus.........
Hij was niet makkelijk voor zichzelf denk ik,genoot wel van de dingen om hem heen zoals lekker de duinen in of naar Overvoorde.
Veel geld was er trouwens toch nooit voor vakanties met zo'n groot gezin. Ik weet nog dat we naar Drente geweest zijn met een stel, Vasse heette dat dorp geloof ik.
Op het laatst van zijn leven, hij is moeten stoppen met werken omdat hij vergeetachtig werd, heeft hij 3x een hersenbloeding gehad.
De 1e x is hij er nog bovenop gekomen , daardoor heeft hij het trouwen van Martin en Sandra nog mee kunnen maken, maar de 2 volgende keren ging het steeds slechter met hem. Hij is toen opgenomen in het Gulden Huis aan de Goudsmidsgaarde. Daar is hij ook overleden.
