      Gerrit werd in 1916 in Amsterdam geboren. Hij was gehuwd met Elisabeth Reijnhoudt die in 1924 in Aardenburg was geboren. In de oorlog woonden zij in Vierlingsbeek A215 (Hoek Spoorstraat-Soetendaal) waar in 1942 hun dochter werd geboren. Gerrit werkte als controleur bij de CCD (Crisis Controle Dienst). Deze dienst die van 1934 tot 1955 heeft bestaan hield vooral toezicht op de handel in schaarse middelen. Gerrit Brugman, als lid van de Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten(NBS), liep eind 1944 wacht op het station in Beugen. Dit ligt ten noorden van Boxmeer. Hij liep er wacht samen met Gerrit Stevens. Omdat het buiten koud was zochten zij een warm heenkomen. Aangekomen op de plaats bleek echter dat de kachel uit was. De kachel werd aangestoken. Blijkbaar zaten er explosieven in de kachel, want na enige tijd ontplofte de kachel. Hierbij raakten Gerrit Stevens en Gerrit Brugman gewond. Er was maar beperkte medische zorg voorhanden maar ook omdat de wond niet als levensbedreigend werd gezien, is er geen intensieve medische zorg verleend. Begin juni 1945 werd er echter geheel anders tegen de niet herstellende verwonding aangekeken. Omdat de medische zorg in de directe omgeving nog maar beperkt van de grond kwam, is Gerrit Brugman opgenomen in een ziekenhuis in Brussel. Tijdens de operatie in het ziekenhuis is Gerrit Brugman op 12 juni 1945 overleden.
