      Mr. Richard “Dick” Van Opynen, age 81, of Spring Lake passed away Monday, December 10, 2018, at home. He was born October 21, 1937, in Grand Haven to Herman and Margaret (Tallman) Van Opynen. On April 17, 2010, he married the former Jacquelyn Reenders Robinson, and she preceded him in death on December 3, 2011.

      Dick served his country in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1974 as chief petty officer. He was a member of the Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post 28, Fleet Reserve Association and Air Traffic Control Association Life Member. He enjoyed model trains and gardening. Dick was a member of First Congregational Church in Fruitport.
      He is survived by two brothers, Robert (Kathy) Van Opynen of Coopersville and Roger (Linda) Van Opynen of Grand Haven; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Yukiko Van Opynen; son, Richard Scott Van Opynen; and his twin brother, Allen Van Opynen.
      A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2019, at First Congregational Church (3212 E. Pontaluna Road, Fruitport, MI). Memorial contributions in memory of Dick may be given to Grand Haven Christian School. Please sign the family’s online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com.
