      Our sweet mother, grandmother, sister and friend was born August 27, 1927, in Dortrect, Holland, the only daughter of Paulus Arie and Jannegie Wilhelmina Van Emmerik. She had a great love for her parents and later in their lives she served as their caregivers until their deaths.

      She married Pieter Van Wyngaarden in Dortrecht, Holland. While living there they joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1946. Nellie, Pieter, and their small son Case emigrated to SLC, Utah, in 1949. They left their home, family, and all they knew behind to start a new life, and to be closer to the Saints in Utah. She was a true pioneer of her time. Together they had five children, Case (Debra) Van Wyngaarden, Mary (Gary) Worthen, Barbara (David) Soderborg, John (Kelly) Van Wyngaarden and Becky (Marc) Finlayson, along with seventeen grandchildren, six great-grandchild-ren and one on the way. Haili named her "cute little grandma" and became very close to her during her last years.

      Nellie loved her religion and served faithfully in her many callings staying strong and true to her religion throughout her entire life. She became blind at age 55 due to a brain tumor, but never let it stop her from anything she wanted to do, and never complained about the circumstances she found herself in. Pieter died suddenly when she was only 59 years old, leaving her to face a life with more difficult challenges.

      Nellie left this mortal life peacefully with Barbara by her side to return to her loving Heavenly Father. She will be dearly missed here on Earth, but we rejoice for her as she has become free from her earthly pains and restraints, and is reunited with Pieter and other loved ones that have gone before her.

      Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 18th at 11:00 a.m. in the Mountain View Memorial Mortuary, 3115 East 7800 South (Bengal Blvd).
