      DIJKSTRA, George H.

      George H. Dijkstra, 66, of Rockledge Dr., Avon, beloved husband of Engelina (Sietzema) Dijkstra, died Saturday, (December 4, 2004) at home after a courageous battle with cancer. George was born December 25, 1937, in Holten, The Netherlands, son of the late Pieter and Fimke (Hofstra) Dijkstra. George graduated from the Culinary Institute in The Netherlands and worked for Marriott Hotels, Inc. as the Director of Food and Beverage for 22 yeas, retiring in 1990. For the past ten years, George has been teaching hospitality courses for the Swiss Hospitality Institute in Washington, CT, which later merged with the Connecticut Culinary Institute and the International College of Hospitality Management in Suffield. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Pieter and Patricia Dijkstra of East Hartford; a daughter, Desiree Dijkstra of Enfield; a sister, Fokje Van den Bovenkamp of The Netherlands; his mother-in-law, Jantina Sietzema of The Netherlands and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be celebrated Saturday, December 11, 3 p.m. at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike, Canton. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday, December 11, from 1-3 p.m. prior to the service. Memorial donations may be made to the Connecticut Hospice, 270 Farmington Ave., Farmington, CT 06032.
