    Mike Shimmell, aged 60, of Wyoming, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 2, 2013, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Mae Shimmell; and his brother, Fred Shimmell. Mike was a selfless and tender hearted man who always thought of others before himself. He was fun loving, and had a great sense of humor who always made everyone laugh. Mike enjoyed many things in life, especially golf, bowling, and most of all, auto racing. He was the owner of Mike Shimmell Body Shop in Grand Rapids for many years. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 34 years, Cindy; his daughters, Kimberly (Jim) Taggart, Karen DeVries (Nick), Deidre (Bryan) Pruitt, Bonnie Hopper; grandchildren, Kaleigh, Kourtney, Nasira, Cynthia, Colin, Stephanie, Carl, Sylvan, and Layla; brothers, Roger, and Robert Shimmell; many extended family members including Scott DeVries, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held 11am Wednesday at the Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming with Pastor Dean Wheeler officiating. Relatives and friends may meet his family Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-9pm at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Spectrum Health Rehabilitation -Fuller Ave. Campus. Condolences may be sent online at www.mkdfuneralhome.com. -
