      Raymond Gjeltema

      Whitinsville – Raymond Gjeltema, 82, of Chestnut St., died Fri. Jan 25, 2008 in the St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester. He was the husband of Ruth (Peters) Gjeltema.

      Mr. Gjeltema was a machinist in the Abrasives Department of the Norton Co. in Worcester for thirty four years before his retirement in 1985. Mr. Gjeltema had previously worked for the former Whitin Machine Works.

      Mr. Gjeltema was born in Sneek, Netherlands on Dec. 27, 1925, coming to Whitinsville in 1926. He attended the Whitinsville Christian School and was a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran.
      Mr. and Mrs. Gjeltema observed their 54th wedding anniversary last May 16, 2007.

      Mr. Gjeltema was a Charter and longtime member of the Fairlawn Christian Reformed Church and had served as a Deacon of the church. He was a volunteer for the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee for many years, traveling all over the United States assisting with disaster relief efforts.

      In addition to his wife, Mr. Gjeltema is survived by three sons; Randall P. Gjeltema of Uxbridge, Robert M. Gjeltema and Roland W. Gjeltema, both of Northbridge, one daughter; Rae-Ann B. Maranda of Sutton, five brothers; Bert Gjeltema of Gallup, NM, Peter Gjeltema of Hudson, Harold Gjeltema of Douglas, Henry Gjeltema of Kalamazoo, MI., and Stuart Gjeltema of Whitinsville; two sisters; Lois Guis and Florence Jorritsma, both of Whitinsville, 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Gjeltema was predeceased by 3 brothers, Richard Gjeltema, Herbert Gjeltema and William Gjeltema.

      Funeral services will be held Wed. Jan. 30, 2008 at 10 AM in the Fairlawn Christian Reformed Church, 305 Goldthwaithe Rd. Whitinsville, MA 01588.
      Interment will follow in the Riverdale Cemetery, Providence Rd., Northbridge.

      Visiting hours will be Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008 from 5-8 PM in the BUMA FUNERAL HOME, 480 Church St., Whitinsvile, MA. 01588.

      Donations may be made to the Whitinsville Christian School, 279 Linwood Ave., Whitinsville, MA 01588 or to the Rehoboth Christian School, P.O. Box 41, Rehoboth, NM. 87322.
