Huwt Pepijn 743/44 volgens de annalen van Prüm, betrouwbaarder dan andere bronnen die verschillende data opgeven.
In 753 ondernam paus Stephanus II de reis naar Gallië om de hulp van de koning in te roepen tegen de Lombarden, bij deze gelegenheid werden Pepijn, Berthe en hun twee zonen gezegend op 28 juli 754 in de basiliek van St. Dénis, waarbij door de paus de banvloek werd uitgesproken over een ieder die de macht in het rijk zou grijpen en niet tot hun geslacht behoorde.

Berthe werd nauwelijks meer genoemd tijdens haar huwelijk met Pepijn behalve toen het huwelijk met Pepijn snel verslechterde en in 762 moest de paus Paulus I ingrijpen om Pepijn van een scheiding af te houden, des te meer liet zij zich gelden tijdens de regering van haar zoons door haar sterkr sympathie voor de Lombarden, reden van Karel’s huwelijk met de dochter van de lombardische koning, zij verloor snel invloed toen Karel een andere koers ging varen.
