Uit het huwelijk met Christina LANGE werden 13 kinderen geboren: 8 meisjes en 5 jongens. De jongste hiervan (een meisje) overleed binnen 4 weken na de geboorte, de oudste
- eveneens van het vrouwelijke geslacht - werd 93 jaar.

Verhuizen was binnen het gezin een regelmatig terugkerende gebeurtenis. In totaal zijn minimaal 25 adreswijzigingen te traceren, in 3 gemeenten.

Over het karakter van Cornelis en dat van zijn vrouw is vrijwel niets bekend. Foto's waarop een van hen of beiden voorkomen zijn niet gevonden. Een vraagteken blijft ook welke van de kinderen welke karaktertrekken en van wie zijn overgenomen, zo er al een duidelijke typering zou zijn vast te stellen. Het enige waar ik op af zou kunnen gaan is het destilleren van karaktertrekken van de verschillende kinderen. Niet uit het oog moet daarbij worden verloren, dat ik de diverse ooms en tantes vrijwel alleen maar heb gekend terwijl ik zelf nog een kind was.
Een deel van de familietrekken mee ik echter te kunnen destilleren uit de vele adreswijzigingen, waarbij ik er stilzwijgend van uit ga, dat vele van die verhuizingen plaatsvonden uit een financiële noodzaak.
Qua beroep wordt dit min of meer bevestigd door onduidelijkheden daarin en de monetaire perikelen die dat met zich meebracht.
Aanvankelijk werd daarbij gevonden dat Cornelis in ieder geval één maal failliet is verklaard. Op 5 maart 1903, nota bene op de 4e verjaardag van mijn moeder, werd hij door de Arrondissements Rechtbank te Haarlem failliet verklaard als handelaar in boter en kaas. Hij woonde toen in Zqqndam (fotokopie in eigen archief).
Veel later dook een advertentie op met betrekking tot een accoord bij vonnis d.d. 12 juni 1894 in gefailleerde Cornelis Hendriks, winkelier in schoenen en lederwaren, wonende te Haarlem. Dit was dus krap 10 jaar eerder !
